Appearance:

The cucumber plant is creeping, it reaches up to 2 meters in length and hangs on support surfaces with the crutches.

Its leaves are large, harsh and cover the fruit.

The flowers are small, pale yellow.

Cucumber (the fruit) is cylindrical, elongated, it can also reach lengths of 50 cm, although it is normally about 10 cm long.

In phytotherapy, the fruit is used as such or its juice.

Cucumber contains

  • 95% water,
  • carotenoids,
  • vitamins A, B, C,
  • fibers,
  • calcium salts, iron, sulfur, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium,
  • mucilages and erepsin.

The cucumber has a refreshing effect, depurative, uric acid and urate dissolves, diuretic, light hypnotics, external astringent, stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin, blood circulation stimulant, antioxidant and moisturizer.

Therapeutic indications

Cucumber consumption is recommended in gout, renal lithiasis in detoxification and slimming belts due to low caloric intake and bowel cleansing capacity, constipation, adjuvant in arterial hypertension, arthritis, colic , subfebrile states, indigestion.

In domestic use it can be consumed raw or in the form of juice.

In combination with carrot juice, black radish and red beet (in equal quantities) can help remove kidney stones.

The cucumber decoction (one spoon in a cup of water) calms the expectorant cough, drinking two cups a day.

In external use, slices of cucumber are used, which have an anti-inflammatory effect on skin irritations, for the soothing and restoring effect of the Ph-skin due to astringent, acne, dermatoses, freckles, skin patches, dilated pores, wrinkles and sunburn.

Precautions and contraindications

Most studies show that there are no side effects or contraindications to cucumbers.

However, people with severe hypertension, ascites or other conditions where the massive intake of fluids in the body is limited will consume these vegetables, containing 95% water.

There are also people whose digestion does not fit very well with cucumbers (in very rare cases they produce indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea).

In cosmetics

Cucumber pulp mask moisturizes dry, aging, tired, tanned skin, helps clean the pores, soothes and degreases, refreshes the skin and revitalizes it.

Cucumber slices applied to the eyes also help remove the scars.
